The newest design from Swallow Yachts

First look:  – wood -epoxy ply 32 footer

Nature’s finest carbon fibre has a lot going for it.

It’s strong, light and, thanks to modern technology, at least as maintenance free as a GRP boat.

More importantly, wood is literally carbon sucked from the air, so the environmental impact of using wood is far lower than with any other widely used production material.

Epoxy bio-resins, cork decks, and an optional electric propulsion system mean she probably has the smallest environmental cost of any new production yacht in the world.

“Small boat specialist Swallow Yachts is venturing above 30ft for a sailing boat for the first time with the new Swallow 32, and it’s also returning to its roots with wood-epoxy construction.”

Theo Stocker

Swallow Boats

About our new design

She is the ideal boat for those looking to downsize, retaining comfortable accommodation and sailing performance, but in a more manageable and economic size.

With her lifting keel, you can edge in close to the beach or explore estuaries and shallows that are off limits to most.

And with her well proven water ballast system she really is a highly versatile boat. Fill the ballast tank in stronger winds or with nervous crew; empty them for off-wind thrills or light wind performance.

Design Features

Swallow Yachts are fanatical about keeping weight down aloft and the BayCruiser 32 features a carbon main mast, boom and spreaders. Her generous sail plan and fully battened mainsail, together with the large changes in mass that water ballast affords means she will be stiff and quick under sail. A large asymmetric spinnaker flown from a retractable bowsprit adds down-wind pace. However, the main and self-tacking jib sheets both lead back to the helm, meaning single handed sailing will be a pleasure.

Another stand-out feature is her large cockpit which provides a comfortable seating and lounging area for extended day sailing.

A fold down transom platform gives easy access to the water for swimming while the sunken side decks and substantial forward bulwarks mean foredeck work is safer and easier.

Down below she has a huge vee berth, a comfortable saloon and a small double under the cockpit. A large heads with full standing headroom to port and a galley to starboard provide the essential amenities that make life on board more comfortable.

Her standard engine is a 25HP Yamaha outboard, sitting in a soundproofed engine well under the cockpit sole. This is fully raised (electrically) when sailing for minimal drag. An electric propulsion system will be an option.

Our first motor boat, the new Whisper 300, is making her world debut at the Southampton Boat Show in September. Designed as a boat for sociable cruising, the emphasis is on elegance and style, combined with a reduced environmental footprint.

Designed for a more sustainable future she is built almost entirely from nature’s finest carbon fibre: wood. Modern treated timbers, epoxy adhesives and paints mean there is no more maintenance than a comparable GRP boat, but looking to the future the construction has been geared around a reduced environmental impact.

Equipped with solar panels, rainwater harvesting for onboard facilities and cork decks, the Whisper 300 needs just two 70HP engines to achieve speeds of 26 knots while burning far less fuel than comparable craft.  The twin outboard engines are cleverly concealed under a soundproofed cover and the strong but light hull of the Whisper 300 will be ideally suited to electric propulsion as battery and infrastructure technology start to advance.

This boat represents a more sustainable approach to boat building that does not sacrifice performance, longevity or style. She’s a motor boat that we hope sailors will understand. Come and see for yourself, we would love to meet you at the Southampton Boat Show and show you around!

To see full details please click on Power in the main menu above, and select Whisper 300 from the drop down menu

We are really pleased to share some exciting news with you!

Whilst reviewing our overall business plan we have taken your feedback very seriously. There’s a clear message for us that a sense of community is really important to the majority of Swallow owners; something, which can be overlooked when owning a large production boat.

The Swallow community that has built up over the years is really important to us too; as many of you will already know, we have hosted a Swallow ‘Raid’ at Mylor, Falmouth since 2015, to bring owners together for  lightly competitive sailing (or just fun cruising) and socialising. This event has given us all a really great experience of sailing in the company of other Swallows. The event has been continuously over subscribed ever since it started, much to the disappointment of potential Raiders!

Sadly, despite our best efforts, we had to cancel both the 2020 and 2021 events due to Covid 19. However this has given us the time and space to review the format and look at how we can bring this type of event to more owners, many who haven’t been able to attend the Mylor Raid due to the timing and location.

We want our owners to be able to get the most out of the fantastic opportunities that sailing in a fleet of trailable boats has to offer. Therefore as part of our plan to make owning a Swallow even more enjoyable, we have decided to create an events calendar to host Raids throughout the UK and hopefully (in time) beyond. By bringing the Swallow Yachts community together at different times and places throughout the year it will give more of our owners the chance to share sailing experiences and explore the country, visiting venues that otherwise may have remained undiscovered.

Part of our investment in this area of the business is the appointment of Sue Milne, who will be joining the Swallow Yachts team as Events Manager. Sue will be working closely with Lara to understand the Swallow  Yachts ethos and develop the plan to roll out a calendar of Raids over the next couple of years. Sue will be your main point of contact for all events.

We will be hosting a south coast Raid later this year so stand by for dates and location to be announced soon. In the meantime if you are interested in being kept up to date with future Swallow events please contact Sue via email on events@swallowyachts.com

A message from Swallow owner Alistair Lawson about a super event he and Nick Orchard are planning for the summer.  Please get in touch with Alistair directly with enquiries and expressions of interest (details below)

One Swallow may not make a Summer but you may get lucky with a flight in 2021!

We are looking to put together, if we are allowed by the current restrictions, a Summer South West Coast cruise for the bigger Swallow Yachts, (BC23s, BC26s & Coast 250s) but any and all Swallows could join in if they wish.

We would be looking to put together information on useful slipways, potential berths and dates/times, between Chichester and Falmouth along the way so that anyone could join or leave as they wish, but with a mix of passages in company and day trips from fixed points. Basically, as those who want to take part wish it.

Many will be familiar with the sailing opportunities of The Solent, Poole Bay, Lyme Bay, Torbay and all points West. We certainly aren’t suggesting that grandma suck eggs our way, but sometimes it is helpful when negotiating new waters to know there are others with you.

It would not be a race, but there may be opportunities along the way for those who are that way inclined, depending on stopovers.

Nick Orchard and I will be collating and putting together the event if there is sufficient interest.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact Alistair Conquer (Iris) lawson_conquer@mac.com

Great news! We have been speaking to the wonderful people at Mylor and have set some dates for the 2021 Raid.

Dates as follows:

Check in/launch Monday 7th June 2021
Sailing Tues – Thurs
Recover.depart Friday 11th June 2021

We will be offering the same catering options as last year, ie packed lunches and evening meals at Castaways come with the sailing package, and you can opt to have breakfast there also.

Windsport will be available for camping and camper vans.

Cost to be confirmed as we have to discuss rates with the harbour and the restaurant but we never make a profit, we just cover costs, and we will always endeavour to keep the cost as low as possible and keep any annual increases negligible.

We have given first refusal to people who had booked for the cancelled 2020 Raid so available places are more limited than usual.  So please be quick if you’d like to come and email events@swallowyachts.com to book your space, and please include the number of crew (including skipper).

Of course we do have to mention that if things don’t relax considerably then we won’t be able to run the Raid this year and will have to cancel it again – that’s the last thing we want but we do have to keep everyone safe!  Therefore we will be delaying asking for deposits until Easter at the earliest.

A particular point we would like to raise is that Castaways is fairly “cosy” and we will be sat close together for our evening meal. We won’t be offering non-dining spaces so please do consider this when you are deciding whether you wish to attend the Raid.

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you all a great 2021

Unfortunately, due to COVID 19 restrictions it has been necessary for the main 2020 Southampton Boat Show to be cancelled.  We love meeting our customers and people interested in our boats at Southampton but British Marine are working hard to keep show-goers safe and we will be looking forward to the show next year, which we are sure will be the biggest and best yet!

At the present time Boot Dusseldorf is due to go ahead as normal and we are already starting to get the boats ready.  We hope to meet many new people as well as those returning to have another look at a Swallow and our owners who are at the show.

It really is a shame about the main show at Southampton, but we will be back in 2021!
